Erica Lugbill is the co-founder and creative director of Lugbill Designs. After years leading projects at established design-build firms, she developed a clear-eyed understanding of what exceptional residential design actually requires — and what it so often lacks.

Our Founding Story

Lugbill Designs was envisioned shortly after Erica and Justin were married in 2006. One evening, over dinner in the home they had renovated themselves, they made the decision to start a design and remodeling firm in Chicago. Two years later, after experiencing firsthand the gap between what clients deserved and what the market was delivering, Lugbill Designs was formed.

Our process begins with a complimentary in-home consultation—an intentional process designed to understand how you live and what your space needs to become. Together, we’ll define priorities, align on goals, and explore solutions that balance beauty and function within your investment range. During this visit, we gather the details needed to deliver clear, upfront cost guidance. With clarity established from the start, we can move forward with purpose and confidence.
With a clear understanding of your aesthetic & everyday needs, we craft a comprehensive design plan—layering layout and material options that balance beauty, function, and investment. Our tech-forward approach allows clients to visualize their spaces before final decisions are made, ensuring every detail is perfect before moving onto the renovation phase.
Behind every successful build are hundreds of coordinated decisions. We manage them all—developing the scope of work, technical drawings, securing trusted labor bids, and carefully ordering, inspecting, and preparing materials—so the process is streamlined and clear from start to finish.
With everyone aligned, it’s time to bring the vision to life. The thoughtful groundwork from earlier stages sets the stage for a smooth, well-orchestrated renovation. Throughout the process, the LD team stays closely connected—with regular calls, e-mails, texts, and on-site check-ins to ensure everything stays on track. Weekly updates keep clients informed and confident, so every step feels organized, transparent, and stress-free.
While construction wraps, we coordinate and oversee the final installation of furnishings and finishing details, including rugs, window treatments, and accessories. The result is an elevated home, fully realized and ready to be lived in.

We serve the greater Chicagoland area, including downtown Chicago and the North Shore suburbs such as Evanston, Winnetka, Glencoe, and Highland Park.
We are a full-service residential design-build firm. Our core offerings include interior design and space planning, full-scale remodeling and construction management (such as kitchen and bathroom renovations), and custom furnishing and decor.
We follow a streamlined, five-step process to ensure a seamless client experience. This includes an initial in-home consultation, comprehensive design and 3D visualization, detailed behind-the-scenes planning, fully managed construction, and a final white-glove installation.
Because we tailor our services to each client’s specific needs and scale, job costs can vary widely, typically ranging from $30,000 to $3,000,000. We always provide clear, upfront cost guidance during the initial consultation phase to ensure our designs align with your investment goals.
We operate out of two physical locations in Chicago to best serve our urban and suburban clients. We have a downtown office located on W Wacker Drive and a North Side office on N Glenwood Avenue.
Lugbill Designs was founded and is led by the husband-and-wife team of Erica and Justin Lugbill. Erica serves as the Creative Director and lead interior designer, bringing her extensive aesthetic vision, while Justin provides the entrepreneurial leadership and operational management that keeps our projects running smoothly.
